Pride and Prejudice-the Silly and the Narcissist

While reading the original text of Pride and Prejudice, I admit that I payed little attention to many of the side characters, mainly because of their lack of presence throughout the novel.  At first, I wanted to know more about them, and hoped that they would get more attention, but after watching the 1995 adaptation, I found that I lost a lot of interest in them.  The main reasons that I lost interest in them was because many of them seemed to have only one character trait that stood out; they were either silly fools who thought mostly about parties and games and/or they showed signs of narcissism.
My main problem was with the younger Bennett girls.  When I read the original novel, I thought that I would want to know more about the younger children of the Bennett house because they had so little time in the book, aside from when Lydia marries Mr. Wickham (I may have botched the names up, sorry).  However, after seeing how immature they acted in the adaptation, I saw them as very shallow people, always wanting to play games and have some sort of fun, and I actually wanted to see less of them now.  I may be acting a bit harsh, but I thought that they needed more to their character if I wanted to be attached to them in any manner.
While reading the book, I may not have payed much attention to the side characters, but after watching the adaptation, I now find that there may have been a very good reason for that; there was just nothing for me to attach to when it came to their personalities.  Their characters are so overshadowed by Lizzie and Mr. Darcy that there's little room for anyone else to get much attention and frankly, I prefer it like that.
