The pilot episode of the walking dead was particularly
interesting to me. It’s always a treat to read text first and then see how it
plays out on screen. What I found most intriguing was the way the characters
were depicted, specifically Dwayne and his father. I was really taken back when
I first heard Dwayne speak; I was interested in the choice of accent and
dialect they used for his character. Honestly, I thought it was a poor choice
because in the comic we don’t get that characteristic from the two of them, and
it came off to me like they were uneducated. I will say I loved the dynamic of
watching Rick encounter the zombies for the fist time, he’s afraid and shocked
but as the episode progresses we see his attitude change towards them and he
slowly turns into the strong leading character we see later on in the show. Particularly, when he goes back the women in
the field and shoots her because he now realizes what she has become. I think
the writers did a good job at hooking the audience with the opening scene of
the young girl that turned into a zombie that is shot. I honestly wasn’t expecting
it to be so gruesome but It represents a lot and really shows us this new world
in the body of one girl and the new things Rick has to do to survive. Sorry I
analyzed this episode backwards; I got excited to talk about The Walking Dead,
which I am currently watching all the old episodes so I can watch the new
season and so far it has been amazing!
